Indoor vertical gardens are great for those who have little space for a garden, but want to enjoy the benefits of a green space. Although you could hire someone to do it for you, you can create your vertical garden yourself if you follow these steps. Simply choose the place where you want to place your vertical garden, whether it is the living room, the balcony or the office and you will definitely enjoy the final result.

Framed vertical garden

First, you need to build a frame that is strong enough to hold the vertical garden on the wall then attach a plastic sheet to the frame to keep the water from leaking. After this, attach a layer of fabric to the frame as the foundation the plants will grow from and make sure the fabric is water retentive and it allows the roots to grow through it, in this case, felt is the most appropriate fabric. Then create an irrigation system from a tube set up on the wall that will drop water down on the entire surface, or better yet, consult a professional in the field to make sure your vertical garden will enjoy proper watering. You should also check out a fertilizing system to encourage the plants to grow and to maintain them in a good shape. After finishing the frame, it is up to your own preferences to choose and insert the plants in your green wall. If you choose tropical plants, you should also buy a led grow light. A small 300 watt led grow light should be able to cover an 4 square feet area. For optimal results, choose 3 watt chips. So, a 300 watt led grow light should have a maximum of 100 led chips in order to be efficient.

Vertical garden with recycled containers

Another idea is to use recycled objects such as plastic bottles or gutters as flower pots that you can attach to the walls in any way you want. Cut the bottles or gutters lengthwise, fill them with soil and plant any type of flower, vine or veggie you want, depending on the room where you want to place the vertical garden.

Vertical garden with spices and herbs

A very innovative idea of a vertical garden is to fill rubber boots with soil and hang them on the walls from place to place. Glass jars offer the same effect, as well as fabric over-the-door shoe holder with tiny pockets that are perfect for planting herbs and spices for your kitchen.

Vertical garden with hanging pots

Who says flower pots should be placed horizontally on the window sill? Dare to hang your pots from the ceiling in your balcony or attach small shelves strategically on the walls to create a different type of garden. The advantage is that it will take less from your space and it will not be incommoding you given that it will cover the wall and not the floor or a table.
